The Silent Surge in Trading Addiction
Trading is often sold as a ticket to freedom financial independence, control over your future, and a smart way to build wealth. But behind the glossy influencer posts and meme stock hype lies a growing crisis.
According to new reports from Swedish treatment provider Spelfriheten, a rising number of young people, especially men aged 18–23, are seeking help for problems tied to compulsive stock and crypto trading.
In just the first five months of 2025, 15% more individuals contacted the clinic compared to the same period last year. Their stories share a common thread:
“It’s a lot of day trading, a lot of crypto and they’ve got the casino in their pocket,” said Finn Stenwall, head of treatment at the clinic.
What starts as curiosity or ambition often spirals into something far more destructive.
Why Are Young Men Most at Risk?
Several overlapping factors make this demographic especially vulnerable:
The dopamine trap: Trading apps are built like games. Every win lights up the brain but so does the chase after losses.
Financial FOMO: Social platforms spread stories of “overnight success”, rarely showing the risks.
Lack of guidance: Many start trading without any education in financial psychology or risk management.
Masculine pressure: For young men, trading success can be tied to identity and self-worth. Losing doesn’t just hurt the wallet it hurts the ego.
We Need a Smarter Response
This is not just a Swedish problem. It’s global. And it’s growing. Here’s what needs to change:
Start talking openly We discuss gaming addiction, gambling problems and social media burnout trading addiction needs to be part of that conversation.
Build financial literacy early Schools, universities and even employers should teach not just “how to invest”, but when to stop.
Hold platforms accountable Apps that offer trading services should include built in safety measures usage time tracking, risk warnings, and optional cooling off periods.
Promote healthier alternatives Data-driven strategies, AI-guided trading tools, and clear risk protocols can be the new normal not speculation disguised as empowerment.
Let’s Make Trading Human Again With Smarter Tools
The future of trading shouldn’t feel like spinning a roulette wheel. It should be clear, data-driven, and aligned with your goals not driven by emotion.
At Hikari Nova, we believe that automated trading, when designed with the right safeguards, can bring back what’s often missing in today’s financial experience: structure, balance, and responsibility.
By removing the emotional highs and lows and replacing them with transparent AI signals, personalised risk management, and user control we’re not here to push more trades. We’re here to support better ones.
This is how we reshape the culture of trading: Not with hype. But with calm. With logic. And with tools that put human wellbeing first.
But let’s be clear: trading always carries risk. There are no shortcuts. No guaranteed systems not even with AI.And that’s exactly why balance, knowledge, and responsibility matter more than ever.
Let’s build a future where trading supports people not overwhelms them. Let’s make trading human again.
If You're Struggling: You’re Not Alone
If you feel like trading is controlling your life financially, emotionally, or socially it’s time to step back. Speak to someone. Pause your trading apps. There’s help available. And there’s a better way to approach the market.
Too Many Are Struggling in Silence. Let’s Talk About It.
We don’t usually ask people to share our articles but this one feels different. Trading addiction is a growing issue, especially among young men. And it often hides behind ambition, memes, and talk of “financial freedom.” But for some, the chase becomes overwhelming, even harmful.
If you read this and it doesn’t relate to you personally, maybe it could mean something to someone in your network. Someone who’s been feeling alone in this. Someone who needs to know they’re not weak or stupid just human.
We wrote this because we believe in making trading human again rooted in discipline, not dopamine. In strategy, not stress. In support, not silence.
🧠 If this message reaches even one person who recognises themselves and takes the step to talk to someone then it’s worth it.
❤️ Feel free to share this with your network. It might help someone feel seen. And maybe, that’s exactly what they need right now.
